Phishing

Phishing targets individuals by email, phone or text message, posing as someone from a legitimate institution.

Their aim is to lure individuals into providing sensitive information like bank and credit card details and passwords.

Number of phishing attacks prevented per quarter

Phising

Over the last quarter, we’ve seen an increase in the number of phishing sites being reported and taken down.

We actively look for phishing sites that try to scam customers by using the BT brand. When we find those sites we block accidental access using our Web Protect service (which is free to all our customers). We also work with web browsers to show warning screens. We constantly work across the internet to get these sites removed as quickly as possible.

Phishing campaigns still target our human vulnerabilities. Since 2016 we’ve seen attacks increase in sophistication and volume. A lot of people are aware of the recent rise in ransomware, but many don’t know that Phishing campaigns are the most popular way to distribute it. And as we spend more and more of our time online, we’re seeing a bigger target base, making everyone a potential victim - not just companies and their employees.
