OpenBack prove victorious in BT Infinity Lab – Digital First competition
OpenBack (formally Fonesense) has been named as the winner of the BT Infinity Lab ‘Digital First’ competition, run in conjunction with entrepreneur community TechHub and the GREAT Britain campaign.
The competitions seek to identify and support start-up businesses who are using the power of communications to make a better world.
Will Pryke, Head of BT’s Infinity Lab said: “We had another strong field of entries into this competition, and the finalists all presented great innovations. We will be having follow-up meetings with a number of them.”
Customer engagement, automation and personalisation
Eight finalists were selected from a strong field of entrants and pitched in Dragons Den style at the new Infinity Lab based in the new Techhub office in London. The pitches highlighted excellence in customer engagement, automation and personalisation.
Dublin based winners OpenBack, will receive support from BT’s technical and commercial teams as well as membership of the Techhub Community. Two other entrants, ‘Sorry as a Service’ and Storygami, were highly commended by the judges.
David Shackleton from OpenBack said, “We are absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to work with BT over the coming months and years. BT’s interest in how the OpenBack automated user retention platform can help many of their apps to provide a better and more engaged customer experience is a great validation of our vision for how app re-engagement will work in the future. We are also delighted to be adding BT, one of the most innovative telecommunications companies, to our fast growing list of tier one customers.”

This competition was supported by the GREAT Britain campaign and UK Trade & Investment, who were so impressed with the quality of the UK companies and their potential to grow internationally that all five companies have been offered places on UKTI’s mission to San Francisco in September to attend the prestigious TC3 summit in Silicon Valley.
